Add Google Calendar into your Firefox sidebar

Here's a quick way to make sure you never need to open your Google Calendar in a tab again: Open it in your Firefox sidebar instead. Discovered at Firefox Facts, it adapts some code from iGoogle and streamlines it down to just the calendar. This is a great hack if you can't or won't use the Google Desktop Sidebar.

Log in to your Google account first, and then load up this Google Calendar link in a regular tab.

Google Calendar in Firefox's sidebar offers access to most Calendar features.

You'll see your Google Calendar load, but in what appears to be a stripped-down version. You can Quick Add events, Create events, and Hide agendas while the calendar shows you a multiday listing of your schedule at the bottom. Bookmark the URL, and then in your Bookmarks folder right-click on the bookmark and choose Properties. Select the Load this Bookmark in Sidebar and you're good to go. Whenever you click on your Google Calendar bookmark, it'll open in the sidebar.

Incidentally, this worked flawlessly with the All-in-One Sidebar plug-in, which gives you such a wide range of sidebar options that I've forgotten what the native Firefox sidebar is limited to.

Nvidia readies mid-range GeForce 9600 GT

Nvidia has begun attempting to tempt its graphics card manufacturer partners with the GeForce 9600 GT chip, leaked presentation slides have revealed. Nvidia will pitch the part as "big on performance, easy on the wallet".

The GPU, apparently codenamed 'D9M', is a DirectX 10, Shader Model 4.0 product designed for PCI Express 2.0 cards. It'll be fabbed at 65nm, and Nvidia claims it will deliver a performance boost of up to 90 per cent over the GeForce 8600 GTS.

The 9600 GT's core will be clocked at 650MHz and connect to memory over a 256-bit bus running at 900MHz, DailyTech notes. It's not yet known how many unified-shader Stream Processors the chip will contain.

Slides leaked to Spanish-language site Chile Hardware, indicate the card's need for a 400W power supply and its provision for dual-link DVI with, interestingly, HDCP copy-protection supported in this mode - provided board vendors implement it, of course.

The site adds that the 9600 GT will come on cards fitted with 512MB of GDDR 3 memory. It'll do SLI, but only with one other card.

The GeForce 9600 GT's release date isn't yet known, but past reports have suggested a February introduction.

Intel Launches superfast new 45nm chips

Intel has kicked an already down AMD by celebrating the arrival of 16 new chips across its laptop, PC and server lines.

The fresh chip dump marks the arrival of Intel's first laptop chips manufactured with a 45nm process that allows for faster, more energy efficient products. Intel CEO Paul Otellini emphasized the mobile strike at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas where chip-filled gadgets are all the rage. Along with the laptop parts, Intel pushed out a number of new 45nm desktop and server processors that complement parts released in November.

On the laptop front, we find the following chips all with a 800MHz front side bus:

* Core 2 Extreme X9000 at 2.8GHz with 6MB of L2 cache
* Core 2 Duo T9500 at 2.6GHz with 6MB of L2 cache
* Core 2 Duo T9300 at 2.5GHz with 6MB of L2 cache
* Core 2 Duo T8300 at 2.4GHz with 3MB of L2 cache
* Core 2 Duo T8100 at 2.1GHz with 3MB of L2 cache

With the desktop chips, customers will see the following with a 1333MHz front side bus:

* Core 2 Quad Q9550 at 2.83GHz with 12MB of L2 cache
* Core 2 Quad Q9450 at 2.66GHz with 12MB of L2 cache
* Core 2 Quad Q9300 at 2.50GHz with 6MB of L2 cache
* Core 2 Duo E8500 at 3.16GHz with 6MB of L2 cache
* Core 2 Duo E8400 at 3GHz with 6MB of L2 cache
* Core 2 Duo E8200 at 2.66GHz with 6MB of L2 cache
* Core 2 Duo E8190 at 2.66GHz with 6MB of L2 cache

And closing things out on the server side, we find four chips with a 1333MHz front side bus:

* Quad-core Xeon X3360 at 2.83GHz with 12MB of L2 cache
* Quad-core Xeon X3350 at 2.66GHz with 12MB of L2 cache
* Quad-core Xeon X3320 at 2.5GHz with 6MB of L2 cache
* Dual-core Xeon E3110 at 3GHz with 6MB of L2 cache

Intel loves to perform these types of shock and awe processor displays and loves the grand showings even more when AMD is facing tough times. The folks at AMD - struggling to find four-core parts - no doubt appreciate Intel's enthusiasm.

Now i am wondering what will happen to AMD,they are the ones who brought dual core processors first in the market at reasonable price.Hope they can compete with intel, otherwise intel will dominate the market which is not good for customers.
